In 1998, the organization of SLOW FOOD met with the mayors of four Italian cities: Bra, Greve in Chianti, Orvieto and Positano to offer them the creation of the International Network of Slow Cities – International Association of Cittaslow. Cittaslow movement has grown to more than two hundred cities around the world. Participation in this organization means to respect the qualification requirements for the environment protection, infrastructure, urban space, access to the free services for inhabitants, support for traditional and local products and cuisine, valorization of craft production, hospitality and the role of towns in the urban tissue. Local communities, associated in the network, decided to make a common effort to improve their quality of life.
