“Where is Morag?”

04 Apr 2025

The Municipal Public Library in Morąg cordially invites you to a meeting with Małgorzata Gałęziowska, author of the book entitled: “Where is Morąg?”. The main topic will be a publication containing an illustrated popular science article about selected elements of the history of Morąg, about the creation of maps and a catalog part with photos and descriptions of maps. This is a review of the cartographic collection of the Department of History and Ethnography of the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn. It includes maps from the 17th century to the first half of the 20th century, developed and published by Kaspar Henneberger, Abraham Ortelius, Janszoon Willem Blaeu, Matthaeus Merian. These are also maps from the publishing house of Johann Baptista Homann and other cartographic works.

The aim of the text is to reflect on the contemporary meaning of indicating a place, locating a person and their emotions, in physical and symbolic space. Morąg is an example of a place that exists both as an urban space and as an imagined community. So where does it actually lie?

We will find out at the meeting on April 10, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. in the Multifunctional Room of the Municipal Public Library in Morąg. The meeting with Małgorzata Gałęziowska will be led by: Artur Sobiela – responsible for the publishing process of the book and Dr. Emilia Figura-Osełkowska from the W. Kętrzyński Institute of the North. There will be an opportunity to purchase the book during the meeting.
We cordially invite you. Free admission.

The publication is co-financed by the Local Government of the Warmia-Masuria Province, published by the Museum of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and the Northern Institute. W. Kętrzyński in Olsztyn, thanks to whose courtesy the meeting was organized.
