The local government successfully completed the certification process and obtained the required number of points required by the statute. In its application, it documented that it is taking steps to protect the environment and the quality of life in the city, implementing and planning the necessary investments. At the same time, it promotes local products and crafts, demonstrates hospitality, and introduces solutions that are friendly to residents and tourists. The city authorities received the certificate confirming full membership in the Netherlands during a meeting of the International Coordinating Committee.
The movement’s philosophy is to work continuously to improve the quality of life for residents. Being part of Cittaslow also means special attention to regional cuisine and crafts, skillfully combining innovation with tradition, planning environmentally friendly investments, eliminating architectural barriers, designing activities for residents at risk of exclusion, and so on.
Currently, 308 cities, including 37 in Poland, belong to the global Cittaslow network. The Polish National Network is supported by two “supporting members” – the Warmia-Masuria Voivodeship and the Olsztyn County. The function of the only “Friend of Cittaslow” so far is performed by the Szynaka Furniture Group.
