Flower collages

24 Feb 2025

Workshop with Anna Sędziwy on the life and work of Mary Delany
27.02.2025 – Thursday – 5:00 p.m. – Orangery of Culture

MARY DELANY – an English aristocrat, artist and gardener who discovered an unusual passion in the autumn of her life – creating flower collages.

At the age of 71-88, she created 985 “paper mosaics” – as she called her works. The collages, made of small pieces of paper, depicted life-size flowers. Another novelty was placing them on black sheets of paper. All works were collected in 10 volumes and are currently located in the British Museum.

ANNA SĘDZIWY – graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Jagiellonian University and the Faculty of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. She works in painting, drawing and book illustration. She collaborates with many publishing houses. Illustrating books allows her to combine her two greatest passions: reading and drawing. In the computer age, she works manually and tries to cultivate classical techniques. She also creates beautiful herbaria, preserving the beauty of flowers and plants in them. She illustrated 4 fairy tales by Ignacy Krasicki published in the volume FAIRY TALE FROM NATURE

WE INVITE YOU TO A MEETING – it will be a great opportunity to get to know the works of excellent creators of herbaria, flower collages, but also graphics and illustrations. We will learn about the extraordinary life of Mary Delany and try our hand at the difficult art of creating flower collages under the expert eye of Anna Sędziwa.
