The Cittaslow Festival (and more) will come to Orneta

Orneta invites adults and children to the 14th Cittaslow Festival combined with City Days. The celebration is scheduled for June 16 and 17, 2023.
The Polish network of Cittaslow cities has 36 members, of which 27 are towns from Warmia and Mazury. It’s no wonder that the annual networking festival is so frequent in our region. This year, the next edition of the Cittaslow Cities Festival will come to Orneta, which will simultaneously celebrate City Days on the 710th anniversary of granting city rights.
The celebration will start on Friday, June 16 at 3.00 p.m. at the square next to the town hall (Plac Wolności). A few minutes later, the ceremonial Snail Parade will depart from here to reach the square next to the Cultural Center and the City Library. During the parade, there will be a competition for the most original banner with the name of the city of Cittaslow. After reaching the site (approx. 3.30 p.m.), the ceremonial opening of Cittaslow Square, which was created as part of the public space revitalization program, will take place.
At. At 4.30 p.m., representatives of the network’s member cities will go to the National Meeting of Members of the Polish Cittaslow Cities Network and the General Meeting of Members of the “Polish Cittaslow Cities” Association. At the same time, the Polish Literary Song Festival will begin on the stage at CKiBM. The next highlights of the entertainment program include concerts by Gabriela Żołądek with her band (7 p.m.) and the Funtom band (11 p.m.).
Saturday celebration – at 6.00 – fishing competition will start on Mieczowe Lake. At. At 10.00, the streetball competition will start at the Sports and Recreation Center, and the commission assessing the arrangement of the Cittaslow cities’ stands prepared as part of the handicraft and regional products fair will start work on the square next to CKiBM. The stands will also feature materials promoting the attractions of each city. The official opening of the 14th Cittaslow Festival (and the fair) will take place at 12.15. Immediately afterwards, artistic performances will begin on the festival stage. At. At 1:30 p.m., the results of the competitions for the most original parade banner and the most interesting fair stand will be announced.
From 2.30 p.m. in the area near Lake Mieczowe, as part of the “Cittaslow on the 710th anniversary of Orneta” project, the sections of the Reduta Orneta Association (historical, exploration, water sports, tourist, shooting, aviation) will present their achievements and activities. An inflatable playground will be opened for the youngest (4:30 p.m., OSiR side field). Additional attractions of the celebration include: scenic flights (Orneta airstrip), guided city walks, animations for children.
At. At 5 p.m., the concert block will start on the big stage at OSIR. Via Gra Blues Electric Band, Szpilki, Zajefajni, DJ Patryk will perform. The star of the evening will be Krzysztof Cugowski with the Band of Champions. The party will last until the night hours.
