31 Oct 2023

The Turkish town of Seferihisar hosted the Cittaslow International Coordination Committee last Saturday. The Polish network was represented by the National Coordinator Jacek Kostka, the mayor of Górowo Iławeckie and the mayors of Lidzbark, Działdowo and Sianów (West Pomeranian Voivodeship).

In his speech, the National Coordinator summarized the activities related to the Jubilee of Nicolaus Copernicus and the promotion of the Copernicus Trail and emphasized the active cooperation of Cittaslow towns in the region, but also throughout the country.

One of the most important points of the program was the admission of new members to the international Cittaslow family of cities. The Polish network has expanded to include two cities: Biała Piska and Golub-Dobrzyń, which is the first city of “good quality of life” in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship. This group also included: Dongying (China), Marulanda (Colombia) and Şarköy (Turkey). Thus, the number of members from all over the world is approaching 300. 38 of them form the Polish Cittaslow network.
The Committee meeting was of a hybrid nature, with delegates participating in person and via an online meeting platform. Members of the association discussed the strategy for the coming years, the role of the association in activities related to eco-mobility in cities, cultural solutions and ongoing and planned projects.
The President of Cittaslow International, Mr. Mauro Migliorini, invited all members to participate in the next meeting of the Committee, which will be held on March 16, 2024 in Damme, Belgium.
